On Tuesday, August 23, seasoned journalist Ninfa Leonardia passed away.
Her younger brother, former Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia, verified this.
The Visayan Daily Star, the first daily newspaper on Negros Island, was co-founded by Ninfa in 1982. She served as its editor-in-chief during the journal’s longest period of time.
She received the Rotary Club of Manila’s Outstanding Journalists of the Philippines Award in 2003.
She was a past president of the Negros Press Club (NPC) and a recipient of the NPC’s award for excellent journalism.
The provincial government of Negros Occidental also recognized Ninfa as a remarkable Negrense.
The Leonardia family extended their appreciation to everyone who had contributed to her life and career and who had helped shape the strong lady she has become.
We honour her with our love, respect, and greatest admiration, he continued, adding that we shall deeply miss her.
Her funeral will last till Saturday, August 27, at the Acropolis Gardens in Barangay Bata.
After a burial service at the Sacred Heart Shrine (Lupit Church) on Sunday, August 28, she will be laid to rest in the Bacolod Memorial Park.
