There is no word yet on whether President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will accept the European Union’s invitation to a meeting to discuss key foreign policy issues.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles stated that the matter was not spoken about at the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
“Not yet, it was not in fact discussed during the Cabinet meeting so we’ll wait… If you’ll recall, we just haven’t calendar the invitation of China so we’ll wait for that one. Wala pa talagang acknowledgement (there’s no acknowledgement), it wasn’t even discussed,” Cruz-Angeles said.
The European Union has welcomed Marcos to its headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, to discuss bilateral relations between both the Philippines and the EU.
The invitation was extended to Marcos by EU Council President Charles Michel in a letter relayed by EU Ambassador to the Philippines Luc Véron, who reflected him and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the inauguration ceremony on June 30.
Michel also raised hopes that Marcos would attend the December EU-ASEAN Commemorative Summit in Brussels.
Earlier, the Palace stated that Marcos has no scheduled state visits because he is still working on his Cabinet.
