Former Vice President Leni Robredo’s daughter responded to Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr.’s proposal to rename Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
In a Twitter post, Robredo queried the idea to rename NAIA after current President Bongbong Marco’s father in the midst of the country’s economic difficulties.
“Literally in this economy, ito pa talaga ‘yung uunahin,” she stated.
Teves Jr. previously filed a petition to rename NAIA Ferdinand E. Marcos International Airport because, in his opinion, it is much more relevant considering the former president’s many services to the airport.
According to one internet user, changing an airport name may cost millions, from changing the signs heading to it to changing the names in control prompts both locally and overseas.
Another netizen expressed shock that there is an establishment or location named after the Marcoses following their return to power.
Meanwhile, the Palace has remained silent on Teves Jr.’s proposal because it has only recently been filed.
“It’s just been filed. After all, wala pang first reading. So, any reaction will be premature, if any, is even warranted at this time,” Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles stated.
