At the Buddhist temple at McLeod Ganj, which is close to Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district, the 87th birthday of the spiritual leader Dalai Lama will be honoured with much hoopla on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Jairam Thakur will attend as the chief guest. Every year, on July 6, devotees and exiled Tibetans in this country and abroad observe the “incarnation day” of the 14th Dalai Lama. However, the COVID-19 pandemic prevented the day from being observed in 2020 and 2021.
The Tibetan government-in-exile has chosen to observe the day with much pomp and circumstance because to the decline of COVID cases and the absence of travel bans. The Tsuglagkhang, popularly known as the Dalai Lama Temple, in McLeod Ganj is getting ready to host a lavish birthday celebration for the Dalai Lama.
To commemorate the day, cultural events will be organized here, showcasing not just Tibetan but also Ladakhi, Nepali, and Gaddi folk cultures from Dharamsala.
