The Office of the Press Secretary refuses to comment on reports that former first lady Imelda Marcos celebrated her birthday in Malacañang Palace, claiming that the photos online are not of public interest.
Photos from a celebration of “Mama Meldy’s 93rd Birthday” at the Rizal Ceremonial Hall on July 2 were released by attorney Michael Manotoc, the former first lady’s grandson and the son of senator Imee Marcos.
According to official photographs, the party was hosted at the presidential palace because the decorations of the space where it was held matched those of Rizal Hall, which is used for state banquets and other gatherings.
In response to questions from the media, the Palace stated that remarks would only be made on matters involving the public interest or welfare.
Although President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has said he won’t be residing there, Malacaan is the official house of the Philippine president.
From 1965 through 1986, when Ferdinand Marcos Sr. was overthrown by the People Power Revolution, the Marcoses resided at the Palace. With the Marcos family back in power, there are fears that they will resume their opulent lifestyles from when the elder Marcos served as president for 20 years.
