The character of Glinda the Good in the “Wicked” movie adaption was up for audition, but it ultimately went to American actress and singer Ariana Grande, according to Amanda Seyfried.
During an exclusive interview with Backstage on Tuesday, July 19, Seyfried was asked what she thought was the “wildest thing” she did to land a part. She recounted the aforementioned audition.
Amanda Seyfried revealed that she auditioned for the role of Glinda the Good in the film adaptation of “Wicked,” which she lost and went to American actress-singer Ariana Grande.
Seyfried recalled the said audition after she was asked what she considered the “wildest thing” she did to get a role, during an exclusive interview with Backstage last Tuesday, July 19.

“I have dreams that I’m still auditioning for ‘Wicked.’ Last summer while I was playing Elizabeth [on 2022 miniseries ‘The Dropout’], on the weekends I was auditioning in person to play Glinda in the movie version of ‘Wicked,’” The actress said.
“because I wanted it so much that I was like, You know what? Yeah, I have to play the last scene of ‘The Dropout’ on Tuesday. I’ll give my Sunday to you.”
While playing the “hardest part” in her life at the time, Seyfried noted how she “bent over backwards” for the “Wicked” character.
“But I think it also taught me how far I’ve come as a singer, which I really wanted to prove. Because ever since [‘Les Misérables’] I was like, ‘I need to be better. I need to do better,’” she continued.
“So whatever comes next in terms of musicals, I’m finally prepared.”
Seyfried, well-known for her parts in the films “Mamma Mia!” and “Mean Girls,” reflected on how “terrified” she was to attend an audition when she was just 15 years old since she “couldn’t act for sh*t.”
“Auditions are very scary, but I love it; I love the fight. I love waiting for my agent to call and tell me whether or not I got it,” she stated.
In contrast, Grande’s casting as Glinda and that of British actress Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba were both revealed in November of last year.
