The newly-elected Councilor of Quezon City’s 5th District stated that placing his showbiz career on wait in favor of a public job was a difficult and deeply personal choice.
Alfred is delighted to have submitted 1,256 resolutions and house bills, 87 of which have become law.
Alfred was the primary author of the National Integrated Cancer Control Act (NICCA), the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act, the Iskolar ng Bayan Act, the Tulong Trabaho Act, and the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act.
Alfred was also given the Congressional Medal of Distinction at the conclusion of the 18th Congress.
Alfred stated during his final State of the District Address (SODA) that giving up his profession in show industry in favor of a public post was a difficult and extremely personal decision.
He was alluding to the time he ran (and won) for councilor as a “bagito” in 2010. His brother, Patrick Michael Vargas, won the congressional seat of Quezon City’s 5th district in the 2022 elections.
“Malinaw sa akin yan noon pa man. Kaya iniwan natin ang showbiz para sa paglilingkod sa kapwa. At dito nagsimula ang aking buhay,” he explained.
With his love for public duty fulfilled, he stated that he really can not entirely quit “acting” for the time being. He also added that such works will be completed whenever he thought he had done plenty for his constituency.
Alfred was also asked what he misses most about the entertainment industry. He said he missed dealing with some of the most innovative and industrious artists in show business.
