The imprisoned Senator Leila de Lima requested medical leave from two courts because she needed major surgery.

Sen. Leila de Lima’s team has requested a medical leave from the two (2) courts hearing the drug-related allegations brought against her. According to ABS-CBN News, the imprisoned Senator need major surgery.

Sen. de Lima has been held in the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center for more than five (5) years due to drug charges. It was in 2016 when some people were reported to have drug operations with the knowledge of the then-Secretary of Justice (DOJ).

Unfortunately, some persons who had previously testified against the lady Senator have now refuted their past statements. They stated that they were pressured to make the statements in order to protect the departed Senator.

Sen. Leila de Lima, the primary sponsor and author of 4Ps, competed for re-election to the Senate in Elections 2022. She did, however, fail the Senate race.

Attorney Filibon Tacardon, De Lima’s spokesperson, stated that a portion of the Senator’s uterus must be removed since it has become a “concern.” The Senator’s office requested that she take medical leave from June 19 to June 25 for surgery.

According to the source, Branch 204 of the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court allowed the petition, but Branch 256 has yet to respond to the request. If the two (2) courts approve, the Senator would spend five (5) days at the Manila Doctors’ Hospital. The proposed 5-day medical absence already includes the needed COVID-19 RT-PCR testing and post-operative monitoring.
