When broadcaster and influencer Raymond Gutierrez, 38, revealed he was gay in mid-2021, it is only now that he is speaking out about it.
On Sunday, June 12, 2022, in an interview with acclaimed journalist Jessica Soho on Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho.
He said, “Noong nag-out kasi ako, I was in a very content place, kung ano yung natutunan natin sa pandemic is to really live your life to the fullest.
“I want to use my platform to empower others na kung may pinagdadaanan silang something similar, napagdaanan ko rin yung ganung struggles, you’re not alone.”
Raymond, who is a friend of Richard Gutierrez’s kakambal, is struggling to lose weight because of the public’s perception of his weight.
Especially when their family is Hollywood royalty.
Eddie Gutierrez, a former matinée star, and Annabelle Rama, a talent manager, are their parents.
Ruffa Gutierrez is an actress and beauty queen.
Raymond said, “Nung bata pa lang kami, talagang na-feel ko na iba ako.
“Iba yung mga hilig ko kay Chard. Iba yung mga gusto kong gawin and iba yung barkada namin. Iba yung personality namin.
“It also was not easy na si Chard, naging superhero dito sa Pilipinas, naging leading man, naging matinee idol.
“I really felt like I was different.”
He also stated that the LGBTQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual) population was seen differently by Filipinos back then.
He says,
“And I think that’s why also nahirapan din ako to come to terms with it [sexuality] because ten years ago, being gay is not the same as being gay today.
“Ngayon, mas marami na tayong nakikitang gay personalities in TV, in movies, in social media.
“Nung panahon ko, pag gay ka, ibig sabihin komedyante ka, sidekick ka, best friend ka, pero hindi ikaw yung bida.
“The decision I was making was not just for myself but for my whole family.”
