On Friday, Filipino tennis player Alex Eala defeated WTA No. 182 Jaimee Fourlis 6-1, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of W60 Madrid in Spain.
Eala, 17, just needed an hour and eight minutes to beat her Australian opponent and go to the semifinals.
The world No. 413 hitter got off to a fast start against Fourlis, blanking her opponent 5-0 in the first set.
While Fourlis maintained her serve in the sixth game to win the set, Eala’s set triumph was only marred by the fact that she held her serve immediately back to win the first set, 6-1.
In the second session, Fourlis took a 2-0 lead against Eala, making it a more competitive match.
The kid, though, remained unfazed, winning three straight games to take a 3-2 lead.
Fourlis broke Eala’s serve to tie the match at 3-3, but the Filipina broke back to take the lead.
The Filipina’s landslide victory was set up by a crucial break in the ninth game of the set, which gave Eala a 5-4 lead.
The winner of the quarterfinal match between Carole Monnet of France and Katherine Sebov of Canada will advance to the semifinals.
