After seventeen (17) years as a vocalist, it was believed today that Kean had quit his band.
It is worthwhile to know that the band from Callalily’s Facebook profile is now known as Lily Music.
On June 23, 2022, in an exclusive interview with GMA News Online, Kean’s wife Chynna said that her husband had not actually left the band but rather had just disengaged.
Kean Cipriano, Chynna Ortaleza’s spouse, denies having quit his band, Callalily. Chynna clarified that the reason the band changed its name from Callalily to Lily was because to Kean’s copyrighting of the former.
Chynna serves as vice president of O/C Records, the record company that her husband Kean owns.
“He did decide to leave the set-up of being in a band,” he continued, “However, Callalily kasi was always under his intellectual property. The brand stays with him”
“If I look kasi into how it’s being phrased at the moment, siyempre it’s easy to say na, ‘O, he left Callalily.’
“But he just left the format of the band. He did disengage with his former bandmates but the name Callalily stays with Kean Cipriano.”
It may be deduced from Chynna’s later remarks that Kean and the band misunderstanding one another.
Chynna claims that despite Kean’s attempts to license the name to his old bandmates, they don’t appear to comprehend it.
“But I don’t think they understood what that meant. And it’s being loosely thrown in social media na he stole [the name],” she stated.
“Sabi ko nga, we know the truth naman and if they cannot understand what happened, I guess that’s just how the story is. And they have more years ahead of them to learn about the rights and the business of music,” she added.
Kean’s former bandmates were not “on good terms,” Chynna publicly stated.
She stated “No, they’re not. Kasi parang Kean was really trying his best to reach out but he just kept on getting no replies, e. They didn’t want to talk to him.”
But I suppose that’s simply how they respond, and there’s not much we can do about it.
“Kean naman is very open-minded and you can’t force a certain kind of reaction sa mga taong hindi ready or hindi nakikita yung paths [for growth].”
However, Lily will release a formal statement in the following days.
