Knowing that many girls held the misconception that applying menstrual fluid to one’s face would prevent pimples caused Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray to almost fall out of her chair.
“Hala! That’s a thing?” her eyes widened in shock.
“Okay, I’ve never done that,” she said.
She recalled that she had experienced acne flare-ups in the past and that the most insane thing she had ever done to attempt to stop it was to put on a mask made of strange medicines.
“I think the craziest thing I ever did was like a DIY (do-it-yourself) face mask with avocado and like banana, oats and stuff. Didn’t work but masarap mag-DIY,” she said laughing.
There is a drive for paid menstrual leave, particularly for women who suffer painful periods, from Zambia to Japan. However, only a small number of nations, mostly in Asia and most recently Spain, have taken action to grant people time off work to heal. The suggestion coincides with a global effort by feminists to eliminate taboos around menstruation. However, Spanish unions have criticized it, stating that rather than emancipating women, menstruation leave would instead encourage companies to hire more males.
