According to the Commission on Elections, the 12 senate candidates who obtained the most votes in the recently ended national elections will be announced on Wednesday afternoon. The winners are: actor Robin Padilla, House Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda, Sorsogon Gov. Chiz Escudero, former Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, ex-House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, reelectionist Juan Miguel Zubiri, Sen. Joel Villanueva, former lawmaker JV Ejercito, Sen. Risa Hontiveros.
All four reelectionists, five returning senators, and three new senators will make up half of the Senate in the forthcoming 19th Congress, following the 12 incumbent parliamentarians elected in 2019. They will be announced in descending order, which means Padilla, who earned the most votes (26.6 million), would be the last to be declared a winner. According to Comelec Director Frances Arabe, just nine of the twelve have verified their attendance at the event as of Wednesday morning. Zubiri, Ejercito, and Estrada have not yet confirmed their participation.
Comelec announced that President Rodrigo Duterte, Vice President Leni Robredo, House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco, Senate President Tito Sotto, and Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo have been formally welcomed to the proclamation ceremony for senators-elect. Every senate candidate will invite up to five guests, documentation employees and family.
However, the Comelec has delayed the announcement of the partial victors of the party-list race scheduled for May 19. Commissioner George Garcia stated that, in addition to the special elections in Lanao del Sur, which may have an impact on the party-list rankings, petitions have been filed with the poll authority contesting the methodology that is being used to proclaim the winning parties.
