President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed two new associate judges to the Court of Appeals, according to Malacañang on Thursday.
Associate Justices Eleuterio Larisma Bathan and John Zurbito Lee are the newest members of the appellate court, succeeding Japar Dimaampao, who was appointed as an associate judge of the Supreme Court in September, and Dorothy Montejo-Gonzaga, who resigned in November.
Acting presidential spokesperson Martin Andanar expressed the palace’s greetings to the two in a statement.
He stated that “We wish both Associate Justices all the best, and we are confident that they would dispense justice with fairness, impartiality and integrity.”
Lee will take over for Associate Justice Dorothy Montejo-Gonzaga, who left in November of last year, while Bathan will fill the vacancy left by Associate Justice Japar Dimaampao, who was appointed as Supreme Court Associate Justice last year.
The Court of Appeals is the country’s second highest court. It is made up of one presiding judge and 68 associate justices who are all selected by the President from a shortlist presented by the Judicial and Bar Council.
