The collaboration between the country’s two largest networks is seen as a “milestone” in Philippine television, with Star Cinema films being available on the Kapuso network.

Yesterday, April 5, ABS-CBN and GMA executives signed a historic arrangement “to license some of Star Cinema’s most popular movies.”

According to GMA Network President and Chief Operating Officer Gilberto R. Duavit Jr., “To us, we are very pleased because the significance of our partnership today ushers in the possibility of a far broader set of conversations, potential partnerships, and cooperation that will have the benefit not only mutually to GMA and ABS-CBN, but as importantly, if not perhaps more importantly, to the benefit of the public we both serve—the Filipino viewer.

“Looking forward, since we have, as they say, broken the ice, there is great optimism that these conversations will start and continue, and we look forward to the possibility of this type of an opportunity again moving forward,” he stated.

Jose Mari Abacan, GMA 7’s First Vice President for Program Management, stated, “During my time programming the network and buying the film, I am really pleased because after having a lot of connections with other majors, it will grow again.”

“Maraming salamat, Star Cinema at ABS-CBN. And I am inviting everyone to witness this momentous affair,” he added.

This is the message of ABS-CBN President and Chief Executive Officer Carlo L. Katigbak, “Every storyteller’s dream is to have as many people as possible experience their creations.

“Now, because of the kindness of our friends at GMA, we have the special opportunity to bring our Kapamilya stories to a new audience.

“We hope the Kapusos find joy and inspiration in viewing our Star Cinema movies, and we also look forward to a new era of friendship and cooperation within our small industry.

“Maraming salamat, Chairman Gozon, Jimmy, Annette, Philip, Joey, Joel, and all our other friends at GMA who have made this partnership happen. Maraming maraming salamat po,” he stated.

“My Ex and Whys,” starring Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil, “The Hows of Us,” featuring Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, and “Hello, Love, Goodbye,” starring Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards, are among the Star Cinema blockbusters that will show on GMA.

Meanwhile, Kapamilya and Kapuso celebrities joined in on the partnership between the two networks.

Last night on “TV Patrol,” hosts Karen Davila and Bernadette Sembrano (both from GMA) welcomed the two stations after revealing the collaboration.

Karen said, “Wow, talaga namang it’s a new era, di ba? Congratulations sa ating dalawa.” Bernadette added, “Sa Star Cinema and GMA!”

Kim Atienza, a former Kapamilya, also commented about it on Twitter, he stated, “The force field is broken! GMA X ABS-CBN! The beginning of many beautiful things to come! The Lord works in mysterious ways!”

“All in God’s perfect time! GMA X ABS,” he added.

The collaboration  of the two networks surprised Kapuso star and former Kapamilya Mark Bautista, as well as Ai Ai delas Alas, Jeric Gonzales, Bianca Umali, and Sofia Pablo.
