The rain will continue to fall in regions impacted by Tropical Storm Agaton (Megi) on Monday, April 11, as the tropical storm moves slowly in the vicinity of Eastern Visayas.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration, Agaton was last seen above the coastal seas of Tanauan, Leyte, before daybreak on Monday, slowly heading west northwest (PAGASA).
At least 22 persons were killed in a landslide caused by Tropical Depression Agaton’s prolonged heavy rain in Baybay City, Leyte, according to the city’s police chief on Monday.
In an interview with Super Radyo dzBB, Baybay City police chief Colonel Jomen Collado stated that dead victims had been discovered in four barangays.
“Meron po tayong nakuha sa Barangay Mailhi, doon po tayo nakakuha ng 16,” “At Barangay Maypatag, mayroong dalawa, mayroong isa, at Barangay Bunga, mayroong isa, at Barangay San Agustin, mayroong tatlo.” (“We got some in Barangay Mailhi, we got 16 there,” “And Barangay Maypatag, there are two, there is one, and at Barangay Bungay, there are three.”) Collado stated.
“Alam ng mga kaanak ng mga nasawi ang nangyari,” (“Relatives of the victims know what happened,”) he said.
Authorities are continuing their search and recovery efforts for six people who went missing following Agaton’s disaster.
