A Heavy Rainfall has Stopped China’s Search for Jet Crash Victims and Black Boxes

Stormy weather in southern China on Wednesday stopped the investigation for bodies and positional information black boxes that might explain why a China Eastern Airlines passenger jet crashed into a hillside with 132 people on board two days ago.

Rainwater was filling the depression in the soft soil produced by the accident, according to state media, and the local meteorological bureau warned of landslides, floods, and severe winds as conditions deteriorated in the mountains of Guangxi.

The rain was expected to continue for the remainder of the week.

Flight MU5735 was on way from Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province, to Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, which borders Hong Kong, when the Boeing 737-800 jet abruptly descended from cruising altitude about the time it would ordinarily begin to drop ahead of landing.

The reason of the disaster has yet to be identified, with aviation officials warning that their investigation would be tough due to the aircraft’s catastrophic damage.
