Lee Jae-kyoo, the series’ director, also reveals why he opted to use young actors in the series.
MANILA, Philippines – All of Us Are Dead, South Korea’s latest zombie-themed series, has led Netflix’s worldwide charts since its January 28 launch, and director Lee Jae-kyoo is happy for the positive reception.
According to Soompi and Koreaboo, the director spoke with E Daily in an exclusive interview on the series’ popularity.
“It’s incredible how much love and support the show has received throughout the world, and I’m very thankful,” director Lee remarked. “I know this means a lot to the actors and crew who have worked tirelessly for the past two years to make this program a reality.”
Based on Joo Dong-renowned geun’s webtoon Now At Our School, All of Us Are Dead follows a virus-infected school as the remaining pupils attempt to defend themselves against a zombie apocalypse. Viewers have subsequently praised the series adaption for staying true to the original webtoon.
“I agreed with the original webtoon creator to make All of Us Are Dead as zombie-filled as zombie shows go.” I hope the episodes convey the path we decided to pursue…. But I had a great time working on it, and I hope the audience can appreciate the love and effort that went into the creation as well,” director Lee concluded.
Lee also discussed his desire to choose emerging performers rather than renowned ones. “I believed that bringing on performers who were superb at acting but were still unknown to the public would contribute to the series’ immersion,” he explained.
“I believe [viewers] will fall more and more in love with both the characters and the performers who play them.” It’s a tribute to each character’s charm.”
Park Ji-hu, Yoon Chan-young, Cho Yi-hyun, Lomon, Yoo In-soo, Lee You-mi, and Lim Jae-hyeok feature in All of Us Are Dead.
