The hashtag #Ateneo is now viral on social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. The tweet about the Ateneo graduate rejecting the 37k starting salary just highlights how different situations are for graduates nowadays.
She was able to decline the 37k most probably because she can afford to look for more jobs and her family can still provide for her.
In the Twitter post of KUME, “I just made a job offer to an Ateneo fresh grad, and I was shocked that she declined a 37k starting salary. The role is for an entry level Marketing Associate. I asked for her reason and she said that she expects at least 60k because of her educational background. I’M SPEECHLESS.”
According to some Netizens, “A lot of people think that 37k as a starting salary is big enough for fresh grads when in reality, it is not. Minimum wage is NOT a liveable wage. Truth is, our professionals are UNDERPAID and fresh grads are not entitled. You put her in a bad light just because she’s from Ateneo,” @pilasnapapel.
ateneo is trending right now and i would like to remind you all of two things:
- all workers, regardless of educational background and credentials, deserve a livable wage.
- all wage labor is exploitation.
- it’s always morally justifiable to bully a capitalist.
