Batangas City Teachers Climb Roof to Catch Signal for Online Class

Teachers who have engaged online class with their students during the pandemic were needed to climb the roof in order to catch the signal to access the internet and continue their online class responsibility.

During the crisis, both teachers and students were facing challenges and difficulties following after the Department of Education (DepEd) implementation of blended learning education. There are some that claimed they find this option convenient for them but a greater percentage of students and teachers expressed sentiment over the new system.

This is because of the technical problem encountered in most remote areas in the provinces where Wi-Fi and data access were quite difficult. Teachers were needed to climb the roof of their school building in order to catch the signal and continue their responsibilities to their students. Joining this inconvenient are the teachers from Sto. Niño High School in Batangas City. They were forced to climb up the roof and exposed themselves against the scorching heat under the sun just to find the signal.

DepEd has implemented blended learning education for the school year 2020-2021 despite of unpreparedness in terms of technology for the online class and financial constraint for modular option. But education secretary Leonor Briones said that the two schemes for remote learning, the online class and modular class are the choices so there should not be a reason in the part of students not to have an education. If household don’t have access to WiFi or they don’t have good data signal to access the internet, there is another option, the modular class may serve best to attend the class.

On the other hand, teachers and other group of concerned people have expressed sentiment for the lack of financial assistance as modules for the students are not yet finished printing.
