Now that the ABS-CBN is shutdown, Presidential Communication Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar commits to bring the level up of the state-owned People’s Television Network (PTV) to compete with other networks like of the GMA7 channel in terms of ratings.

House committee on appropriations chairperson Representative Eric Yap asked Andanar during the House hearing on PCCOO’s budget from where Andanar was presenting the Php1.59 budget for 201212. Yap is asking if he has plan for the PTV to compete with other giant networks at this time that the ABS-CBN is now off the air.

Andanar replied, “Yes, we have a plan to at least be able to compete as far as ratings are concerned.”

The PTV is a government-owned corporation, just like other network, the PTV also make money from advertisers.

Rep. Eric Go Yap also questioned the qualification of Andanar’s designation as he is the current officer-in-charge of PTV, from which Yap said that Andanar stands as a production assistant with no managerial experience.

Another concerned issue took up by Yap was about the poor working condition and low wages of PTV employees.

“Ang gobyerno ngayon, natutulungan pa ‘yung employado nila. Ang sa akin, bakit natin hahayaan na yung mga cameraman P17,000 lang ang sahod tapos kulang sa PPE, kulang sa gamit?” Yap questioned Andanar.
However, Andanar replied that his office is trying to address the labor issue within the area of responsibility of the PTV.
