DepEd revealed areas of limited face-to-face classes on their proposal submitted to President Rodrigo Duterte.
The Department of Education (DepEd) under Education Secretary Leonor Briones is submitting proposal to the Office of the President to hold classes of limited face-to-face in the certain areas in the country where the health authorities determined low risk of COVID-19 transmission.
Based on the Department of Health (DOH) monitoring and records of COVID-19 cases in the country, the DepEd department has able to determine the areas of low risk transmission the reason of including these places to the proposal of limited face-to-face classes. The proposal of Secretary Briones was based on the new law Republic Act (RA) No. 11480 states that the President has the power to alter the schedule of classes based on the suggestion of the Department Secretary.
The low risk areas include Siquijor, Dinagat Islands, and Siargao.
Briones cited the advantages of holding limited face-to-face classes in the proposal which highlighted the following:
- Familiarity
- Lower administrative costs
- Closes inequality gaps
- Allow interaction
