During the pandemic, a Pinoy Singing Group called Astrafellas, won in the Singapore A Cappella Championships while only recording in a closet.
Back in 2016, Daniel Mallari, one of the Astrafellas’ members stated that one of their inspirations in the contemporary acapella music is a group called Pinopela. Pinopela was the one who encouraged them to join the International Contemporary A Capella Competion of Mr. Cayabyab and it was called Akapela Open 2016.
According to Jon Jimenez, an Astrafellas member, it all started when they became champions. Yuri Dale De Guzman, another Astrafella member explained that the Singapore A Cappella Championships is founder by The A Capella Society to celebrate the contemporary a cappella music every year.
He also added that the Singapore A Cappella Championships is held every year on different locations in Singapore. However, this year’s competition happened virtually because of the pandemic.
Chantal Salonga, an Astrafellas member revealed that they also tried recording in a closet to lessen the background noises.
