In San Antonio Davao City, Nine (9) people that violated the curfew swims in a dirty and stinky canal. However, Davao City Mayor, Mayor Sara Duterte doesn’t agree on this kind of penalty.
According to the GMA News report of Cedric Castillo in GMA News on Wednesday, those who had violated the law and went down on the canal couldn’t contain their emotion of annoyance. Also, they were alarmed that they might get an infection due to their punishment.
Jay Lloyd Purisima said, “Ang dumi niyan. Sinabihan nila kami na mag-mask eh mas matindi pa ‘yan kaysa sa COVID sa dami ng insekto.”
“Nakainom kami ng tubig niyan. Single father ako tapos ito lang ang kinabubuhay namin ang pamamasada, kukunin pa nila,” another complainant Frederick Matias said.
However, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said, what they did for the punishment was not inhumane.
“Palanguyin ang isang tao sa kanal? No, it’s not humane. What is humane is dapat pinaglinis sila ng kanal,” Mayor Duterte said.
According to the barangay official defended themselves saying they just did that because the people are stubborn and disobedient.
“Para sa amin tama ‘yon para maturuan sila ng leksiyon kasi kahit anong gawin ng pakikiusap, hindi nakakaintindi,” said the purok leader Lisa Paglinawan.
