Top trending topic online! A magnitude 6.8 earthquake hits the northern parts of Chile at 7:35 GMT, early on Wednesday, monitoring groups confirmed, though mining companies told Reuters their operations were not impacted.
Chile was also hit with 6.8 magnitude quake and damaged several coastal towns last year. GFZ German Research Center for Geosciences stated that the quake had a depth of 145 kilometers.
The GFZ German Research Center for Geosciences added that its epicenter was about 62 km southwest of San Pedro de Atacama, close to several large copper mines, including Codelco’s Chuquicamata and Ministro Hales.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
