The Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) recorded three (3) volcanic earthquakes prompting the agency to issue Alert Level 1 advisory prohibiting entry to Taal’s Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ).
According to the DOST-PHIVOLCS the 3 volcanic earthquakes were associated with rock-fracturing processes beneath and around the edifice. PHIVOLCS also recorded fumarolic activity that drifted southwest vent on the Main crater and fissure vents along the Daang Kastila Trail.
PHIVOLCS said that Alert Level 1 is maintained over Taal Volcano. PHIVOLCS also reminds the public for sudden steam-driven or phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall, and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas can occur and threaten areas within the Taal Volcano Island (TVI).
PHIVOLCS advised the folks to avoid entering the Permanent Danger Zone especially within the vicinities of the Main Crater and the Daang Kastila fissure as categorized “strictly prohibited.”
Authorities also advised pilots to stay away from the volcano as airborne ash and ballistic fragments from sudden explosions and wind-remobilized ash may pose hazards to aircraft.
As of the moment, DOST-PHIVOLCS continue monitoring Taal Volcano’s activity and to inform the public any new significant development observed.
