The controversial issue of franchise renewal of the giant network in the country, ABS-CBN, chairman emeritus “Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III finally broke his silence concerning the controversial issue on his citizenship.
During the hearing session of franchise renewal on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 Lopez was questioned by the panel members about his citizenship citing the allegations that he is not a Filipino citizen since the time he assumes position and responsibility of the ABS-CBN as top executive.
Lopez clarifies and answered patiently every question to him by the lawmakers of the House Committee on Legislative Franchise and Good Government and Public Accountability, concerning the controversial issue against his citizenship relating to the law that prohibits the ownership and management of a “mass media” broadcasting company as it is limited and exclusively owned by a Filipino citizen only.
Lopez clarifies his Filipino citizenship since he was born he said he is a Filipino but he also admitted that he voted the 2016 presidential election in the United States. Lopez reiterated and insist that he is a Filipino and to live and die as Filipino in the country.
He added that he never forgets that he is a Filipino in thoughts and in deeds and his heart he said, he is a Filipino.
But the most significant of Lopez statement is that, “he is willing to give up his US citizenship if it is the solution of the conflict of interest.
