House Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta received criticism for using videos of Kapamilya stars Kim Chiu and Vice Ganda at the ABS-CBN broadcast franchise hearing last May 26, 2020. Sagip Party List representative Marcoleta released Kim’s “Bawal Lumabas” video as part of the opening statement while in his closing statement, he released a video of Vice challenging Pastor Apollo Quiboloy to stop traffic on EDSA and “Ang Probinsyano.”
During the House hearing on ABS-CBN franchise on Tuesday, May 26, Rep. Marcoleta, one of those who opposed the renewal and discuss all violation of ABS-CBN.
Katigbak: We commit that even after receiving our franchise, we will have the humility to listen to the public on how ABS-CBN can continually be of better service to our country.
Rep. Rodante Marcoleta says that Congress should deny the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN “for its clear violation of the Constitution requiring 100% Filipino ownership and management of mass media companies.”
In the exclusive interview of Cabinet Files to Marcoleta on Thursday, May 28, two days after trending its statement, allegedly distasteful for using videos by Kim Chiu and Vice Ganda. The House Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta stated he used the video to present his message to the public.
“Sa tingin ko kasi, mas madali kong maire-relate ang pinakabuod ng aking position sa linya ni Ms. Kim Chiu na ‘Kapag hindi ka nag-comply sa batas, hindi ka dapat lumabas.’
“Ang bone of contention lang naman kasi dito ay ang hindi pag-comply ng ABS-CBN sa prangkisa nito kaya, gaya ng linya ni Ms Chiu, hindi na rin ito dapat magpalabas.
“Ang layunin ko ay maiparating ko nang maliwanag sa karaniwang tao ang aking mensahe.
“An effective communication is all about attracting the attention of your target audience—the people.
“That very simple line of Ms. Chiu provided a very important link to the people’s consciousness.
“There was no offense meant to anyone in the analogy.”
He added, “Honestly, I did not expect the outpouring of support given the intimidating influence of the biggest network in the country.It was a humbling experience, and I could not believe this was happening,” Source MSN.
The legislative franchise of ABS-CBN expires on Monday, May 4, 2020.
