House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano breaks silence after he finally gave a statement regarding the closure of the ABS-CBN network.
ABS-CBN network shut down following the cease and desist order that was issued by the National Telecommunication Commission (NTC). Due to that, the largest tv network in the Philippines stopped broadcasting at 7:46 pm Tuesday, May 5, after 65 years of service.
On some reports, the network’s loyal viewers and talent expressed their disappointment on their social media accounts. Also, some fans destroyed their TV saying it’s now useless because there’s no tv network that can top ABS-CBN’s shows.
Meanwhile, Rep. Jose Salceda said that ABS-CBN’s closure could lead to more coronavirus infections because people will now prefer to go outside their homes than watch other tv network’s programs. He also said that the NTC should have planned it thoroughly before issuing the closure orders amid the coronavirus pandemic.
In addition, the Buhay party-list Representative Lito Atienza blamed house speaker Alan Peter Cayetano for the media network’s closure. He said most of the members of the House of the representatives failed to do their job amid the company’s franchise issue.
“I’d like to say squarely, kasalanan ni Speaker Cayetano ito. Pagkukulang niya ito sa bayan… He will have a lot to explain one day. It may not be today, but later on this issue will hound him because he is the one who did not do his job,” Atienza said.
