MANILA, Sen. Sotto recently files a petition to move the opening of class to September 2020.
Sotto filed a Senate Bill No. 1438 aiming to make some amendments on R.A. 7977 which state the opening of classes will be on the first Monday of June not exceeding the month of August.
According to the Senator, the reason he did this is to give more time to the education sector to prepare more against COVID-19 and to adopt more teaching approaches to ensure the safety of the students, as well as, continue their learning process.
Last few hours ago DepEd Sec. Leonor Briones confirmed the opening of the school year 2020 to 2021 will be on August 24, 2020.
The education sector clarified that the said announcement is with consensus to IATF and they had conducted several meetings and brainstorming until they reach into conclusion the classes will start in August.
Meanwhile the Bill has not been approved yet and will pass through many Senate hearings until it they reach to a decision if the petition will be implemented or not.
