Breaking news! Dr. Aileen S.P. Baviera, professor and former Dean of the UP Asian Center and one of the country’s foremost sinologists, passed away today, March 21, 2020, at San Lazaro Hospital due to severe pneumonia caused by COVID-19.
In the UP Diliman Facebook page, It is with deep sadness that we inform you that Dr. Aileen S.P. Baviera, Professor and Former Dean of the UP Asian Center and one of the country’s foremost sinologists, passed away today, March 21, 2020, 3:55 a.m. at San Lazaro Hospital from severe pneumonia caused by COVID-19.
Baviera was president and CEO of the Asia Pacific Pathways to Progress Foundation, Incorporated which aims to promote “peace, development and cultural understanding for peoples of the Philippines and the Asia Pacific, through international dialogue and cooperation.”
DOH recorded COVID-19 has infected 230 people in the Philippines, with 18 death and 8 recovered.
Latest Update Globally, as of March 21, 2020, a total of 266,175 have been infected and nearly 11,186 have died because of the viral disease that was first detected in Hubei, China. Over 90,603, have recovered from the deadly disease.
