Current ABS-CBN President Carlo Katigbak issues and apology statement to President Duterte for failure of airing his political ads worth 7 million pesos last 2016 presidential elections.
Here is Katigbak statement ” ‘Dun sa local ads nagkaproblema kami because we only have 2 minutes of airtime per hour. In the case of local ads, the President placed an order of Php 65-million worth of spots of which we failed to air Php 7-million worth.”
Katigbak added his policy of their ads is based on a first come first serve basis and many of the spot allocated are already full and reserved during the last days before the elections namely May 3 and May 7 , he also added the TV station had already refunded the amount of money to Presidents camp and if staff refuse to accept the money.
It is remembered that prior to Duterte’s election as President last 2016, he is ranting the station for being bias and favored the other party proven by limiting its campaign ads to aired by the network.
Early 2019 he promised that he will be a person of interest to stop its franchise renewal because of what happened.
“We acknowledge our shortcoming in our failure to release that refund in a timely manner,” Katigbak said. “We are sorry if we offended the President. That was not the intention of the network. We felt that we were just abiding by regulations that surround the airing of political ads.”
As of now the airing of the franchise renewal hearing is happening now in the Senate wherein the station is doing its best to prove that they had not done any violations against the law to suspend its franchise to operate as a TV station here in the country.
