The US Senate committee orders the Philippine government to release Sen. Leila De Lima.
Resolution 142 of the US Senate committee ordering the Philippine government to drop the charges and immediate release of the detained lawmaker Leila De Lima was approved by the majority of the senate members of the United States of America.
The original author of the resolution passes to the US senate is headed by Sens. Edward Markey of Massachusetts and Dick Durbin of D-Illinois supported by the cosponsored senators Sens. Marco Rubio of Florida, Marsha Blackburn of R-Tennessee and Chris Coons of D-Delaware.
The substance of the said Resolution 142 described De Lima a prisoner of conscience which mean to say she is detained solely on account of her political stand and rights to exercise of her freedom of expression. This resolution orders the Philippine government immediate action to release from his imprisonment since February 2017.
In addition to the order of releasing De Lima, the resolution also speaks of condemning the extrajudicial killings connecting to the administration war on drug campaign, imprisonment of human rights defenders, harassment and arrest of journalists, including reporters in online news like of the Rappler CEO Maria Ressa.
Cosponsored of the resolution Senate Foreign Relation Committee Sen. Edward Markey, wrote on his Twitter account condemning the imprisonment of De Lima for more than 1,000 days now languished in prison.
