A woman posted reporting how she defends herself to a harasser surprisingly by pointing a taser to his face has been viral on Facebook recently. The netizen also calls for women who has experienced in street-harassment and catcalling.
Katrina Isabel Trillana, a University of the Philippines alumna shares her experience on Monday after she was being harassed on the streets. But in this case, Trillana didn’t run away from her offender like most women do, but fired up a taser she was holding and points it near to the harasser’s face.
As she narrates in her post, 21-year old Trillana was on her way home waiting for a jeepney in the terminal, when a middle-aged man whispered in her ear, “Hi se*y.” This is the time she points her taser to the man’s face by saying “P******** mo, ano sabi mo? Ano sabi mo ulit?” (M***********, what did you say? What did you say again?) The man stares at her aghast but unapologetic. Minutes passed until the man decided to walk away from her.
Though it was considered to be highly dangerous, Trillana admitted that she was satisfied by it though her anger on the man didn’t fade out. She also added that this kind of situation happened to her many times, although she fights back nobody ever apologized to her.
Trillana then challenges men to respect woman the way they want to be respected also. By ending her post she addressed women to stop walking away, stop being silent.
Trillana’s post was viral with 4,000 shares and 13,000 likes/reactions gaining praise for her bravery and criticisms after she mentions President Duterte’s infamous catcalling issues before.
