Does Separation from US and EU Affects BPO Industry in the Philippines?

Can President Rodrigo Duterte’s decision to cut military and economic ties with the United States will certainly affect Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry in the country?

For almost 1.3 million Filipino workers and $25 billion revenue for 2016, the BPO industry has greatly made a big impact in the Philippines economy.  BPO industry employees cannot do but fully alarmed by Duterte’s recent fiery announcement and statements against the US and the European Union, whom 70% of BPO investments comes from the US.

In a statement, the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) said they will be continuing in monitoring the developments on the President’s pronouncement on the military and economic ties with the US.  They also revealed they have a plan to discuss to the President their industry concerns on PH separations from US.

Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella clearly stressed out that the separation of the Philippines from US will not affect the BPO industry in the country.

Abella added, they will assure the industries that the separation is not the ending of the relationship of economic ties.
