Malacañang Palace is Set to Announce September 12, 2016 “Eidul Adha” a Regular Holiday for the Philippines

Malacañang Palace – September 12, 2016, Monday is expected to be announced soon as a regular holiday around the country for the “Feast of Sacrifice” or Eidul Adha.  This is after the Saudi Supreme Court has confirmed on Friday the date for the festival.

According to reports from Al Jazeera, the annual festival starts on September 12, after religious authorities in the kingdom failed to see the appearance of Moon on September 1.

The Eid al-Adha is Islam’s holiest festival celebrated annually around the world and also considered as the official holiday in Muslim-majority countries like the Philippines.

In the observance of Eidul Adham, it was mandated by Republic Act (RA) 9849 signed in 2009, the tenth day of Zhul Hiija or the twelfth month of the Islamic Calendar is declared to be a national holiday.

According to Proclamation No. 1105, s. 2015, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) must advise the Office of the President of the actual date of Eidul Adha. Once endorsed by NCMF, President Rodrigo R. Duterte will release the proclamation for the national holiday.
