3-Year-Old Toddler “Ivan” Died in Escalator in 999 Mall in Binondo Manila

A 3-year-old boy identified as “Ivan” died in an escalator accident at 999 Mall in Binondo, Manila last Monday, February 24, 2014.

According to Jennilyn, a family friend of the victim, she was with the boy together with his mother in the second floor of the said mall looking at the shoe stalls when the accident was occurred.

Jennilyn said, Ivan disengaged from her mother’s hand and just played near the escalator. She and her mother were just glancing the boy from time to time while looking for the shoes.

A few minutes later, they heard a loud noise following after the yelling people for the falling child.

After knowing that it was Ivan, Jennilyn said that she was shocked and was not able to move about five minutes. The boy was then rushed to the nearby hospital.

Jennilyn narrated that she was informed that the boy’s hand got stuck in the escalator and he was drugged going down to the first floor.

However, according to the Police report there was no indication that appeared in the hands of the child signifying that the boys hand have been stuck in the escalator. But because the boy was playing at the edge of the escalator, the tendency was that the motion of the floor dragged him down.

The boy suffers comatose because of the head injuries but died a few days after while he was in the hospital at around 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2014.

The 999 Mall owners have provided financial assistance to the family of Ivan even though her mother admitted that she shared the blamed of the incident.

Ivan’s mother suggested that the mall would be safer for kids so that the incident will not be happened again to any of the kids like Ivan.

Parents of Ivan are planning to bring the remains to the province where the boy will be laid to rest.

  1. This is very sad news for all concerned. My condolences go out to the family.

    But I also can’t help but comment on the writer’s English – or lack of it. If you guys want to brand yourselves as an outlet for global information, please make sure you can at least write properly.
