Steph Micayle a young local artist of Singapore uploaded video on YouTube entitled “Why I am not proud to be Singaporean” triggers the netizens to react with various personal comments toward the video.
The 13:50 minute monologue video of Steph Micayle describes the Singaporeans as “submissive” and attacking the city-state’s education system for stifling creativity. The said video on YouTube went viral on social media and networking sites that marks more than 1-million-plus views and 3,256 comments on the leading video sharing website after it was uploaded on January 14, 2014.
Steph Micayle appeared on the local media and made her official statement that she didn’t feel proud being Singaporean.
In some portion of the video, Steph Micayle said “I believe it is time for Singaporeans to see a fresh perspective of… society and know that it is not perfect.” With her statement the netizens get mad with her and reacted to the video as it says something to mar the reputation of the Singaporean country.
Recently, Singaporean netizens complained Steph Micayle not only about her video uploaded on YouTube but about her bad behavior during the South Korean reality talent show.
Steph Micayle also took her Facebook account which has more than 124,000 followers and post a long list of reasons for not being proud to be a Singaporean, one of which the people were getting mad of her was that she said “Singaporeans are submissive.”
Steph Micayle earned popularity on a video sharing website after her acoustic version of the “Gangnam Style” popularized by the South Korean rappers Psy.
