ABS-CBN journalist Karen Davila weighed in on the controversial issue between Makati City Mayor Junjun Binay and the guards of posh Dasmarinas Village.

In DZMM Teleradyo episode dated December 19, 2013 news anchor Karen Davila’s assessment following a closed circuit television (CCTV) footage that was published by Philippine Daily Inquirer showing the confrontation of Binay’s camp to the guards on duty to the said subdivision a few days ago.

On the DZMM radio program “Pasada Sais-Trenta” the head-start anchor clarifies that she has no personal issue to the Binay’s family of Makati City but she said “let the public understand the bigger point of the story.”

According to Karen Davila, if government officials are really sincere to the advocacy of President Pinoy “tuwid na daan” there should be no public officials to be regarded with special treatment of favors.

“Bakit? Who cares kung VIP yun?” Davila said referring to the Binays, which statement went viral in social media brings together with various comments from the netizens.

“Iyan na naman tayo, nandiyan ulit sa pag VIP bigyan mong konsiderasyon. Pag ordinaryong residente, ewan ko ba.” (Why? Who cares if they’re VIP? There we go again at giving considerations to VIP. But if it’s just an ordinary citizen, I really don’t understand,) added Davila.

If that is the case, giving special treatment to all the VIPs of the country, what will happen, since we have so many VIPs.

 she continued. (The Philippines has many VIPs…We have 24 senators and more than 200 congressmen. They’re all VIP, what if they all used that gate at 12 midnight at the same time, should they be allowed?)

Speaking of “tuwid na daan” if nobody is willing to uphold the president’s legacy, nobody is willing to do their share we are exactly at different route in oppose to the “matuwid na daan” much more when government officials acting above the law.

“Pag nagsimula ka kasi ng ganyan, hindi tayo nasa tuwid na daan. Ang gusto nga nating magbago yung kultura natin eh diba?” she concluded. (If we start like this, we’re no longer in the ‘tuwid na daan’ (straight path).  Didn’t we want to change the culture?)
