Ferdinand Pascual Aguilar best known as “Freddie Aguilar” or “Ka Freddie Aguilar” is now “Abdul Farid” in his new Islam name. He has intentionally converted to Islam six months ago for the purpose of marrying the 16-year-old girlfriend, Jovie Gatdula Albao.

The wedding took place on November 22, 2013 which date coincide Maguindanao’s 40th Foundation Anniversary Celebration of “Kanduli”.

Maguindanao Governor Esmael “Toto” Magdadatu officiated the wedding ceremony under the Islam rites.

According to Hon. Magdadatu, wedding is possible under the Presidential Decree 1083 granting Islam to exercise constitutional right in connection to “Muslim Family Code of the Philippines.”

Under the Philippines Civil Code, persons below the legal age of “18-years” would be disqualified to enter into contract of marriage. However, under the Shariah Law of Islam, the woman is permitted to engage the marriage contract after the first menstrual. With that provision qualifies Jovie to tie the knot with Ka Freddie only under the Islam rites.

Aguilar admitted that having relationship with Jovie who is under the legal age of 18 had captivated mix public reactions in relation to his personality as a public icon in music industry.

Aguilar shows interest to convert Islam since 2011 prior to his meeting on Jovie.
