However, the Republic Act 9147 or the Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act says, any activities, sports or recreation that threatens the wildlife species by which we considered endangered is prohibited, illegal or violation against the law, because the wildlife is a treasure of nature that we must protect and preserve.

According to Change.org, the “Wild Club of the Philippines” filed petition against the hunting expedition of the former Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson and his daughter. There are more than 1,200 people followed and signed the petition demanding to stop the wildlife hunting activities

Richelle Singson tried to delete the photos uploaded in her Facebook account to deny that the duck hunting did not take place in the country, but it’s too late, because the photos spread already in social media.

The ABS-CBN conducted interview with Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau Wildlife Division Josie de Leon who give her assessment regarding the source of the photos, she said, “The photos were clearly of Philippine wild ducks. These are only found in the Philippines,” de Leon said.

De Leon said that the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DNR) has no capability to investigate Internet related issues and referred the case to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Cybercrime unit under supervision by the head agent Ronald Aguto, Jr.

“Ms. de Leon told ABS-CBN that only the Cybercrime office would be able to coordinate access to the accounts of Singson’s daughter, Richelle Louise Singson-Michael, on Instagram and Facebook.”

Anybody violating the law may be penalized for a minimum of 2-years and 1-day to 4-years imprisonment and/or a fine of P30,000 – P300,000.
