MANILA — From January to June 2026, 28 free online courses will be offered by the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), a pioneer in open learning and distance education in the country.
UPOU said in a Facebook post that anyone can enroll in the 28 online courses on the university’s MODeL platform at their own speed. These courses include business planning, project management, agribusiness, intercultural communication, child development, and an online mothers’ class.
UPOU Said, “Learn anywhere, anytime, and earn 16-hour e-certificates for your resume.”
Four additional subjects will be included in the free online courses: Internalizing Behaviors among Children and Practical Home Support, Data Annotation for Aspiring BPO Professionals, Climate Information Services, and Practical Home Behavior Management for Children with Special Needs.
Although enrollment is still open while classes are in session, the institution reminded students that it is only open two weeks before to a course’s official beginning date.
It said that the dates on which the free online courses would be offered could be changed at any time.
UPOU said separate announcements would be made regarding the free online courses that will be offered from July to December.
Learners who complete the requirements can receive free digital certificates, which may be used to support job applications, career shifts, or professional portfolios.
UPOU emphasized that the courses are open not only to Filipinos, but also to international learners, reinforcing the Philippines’ growing presence in global open education.
Interested participants may register through the official UPOU MOOCs website, create a free account, and immediately begin enrolling in any of the 28 courses. No entrance exams or prior academic credentials are required.
Established in 1995, the University of the Philippines Open University specializes in open and distance e-learning, serving thousands of students through fully online degree programs and short courses.
Education advocates have praised the free-course initiative, noting that it helps bridge gaps in digital skills, continuing education, and workforce readiness, particularly in underserved communities.
