MANILA — Armed men robbed a silver accessories store in Barangay Pasong Putik, Quezon City, on Wednesday, stealing more than P600,000 worth of jewelry and cash, according to police.
Around midday on February 27, according to CCTV footage, six men casually entered the shop, pushed a security guard aside, and fled with roughly P104,000 in cash, P10,000 worth of gold rings, and various valuables valued at an estimated P539,500.
One of the suspects was carrying a gun when he shot himself in the leg.
The district director of the Quezon City Police District, Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio, said, “Pagtaas niya ng pantalon, pumutok po.”
On March 3, one of the suspects was apprehended in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City, during hot-pursuit operations by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) and Pasong Putik Police Station 16 with the aid of other operational units.
It was him who was observed pilfering jewelry from a glass cabinet.
Along with many motorcycle helmets thought to have been used in the crime, an unlicensed caliber .38 pistol loaded with three bullets was recovered from him.
The five suspects in the crime are still being sought after.
Authorities said the suspects fled the scene aboard two motorcycles and a getaway vehicle parked nearby. A dragnet operation was immediately launched, and checkpoints were set up in surrounding areas.
Investigators are now reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the store and nearby establishments to identify the perpetrators. Police are also coordinating with barangay officials and witnesses to gather more information.
While no injuries were reported, authorities estimate that hundreds of thousands of pesos worth of silver items may have been taken. An inventory is still being conducted to determine the exact value of the stolen goods.
The QCPD urged anyone with information about the robbery to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
Police reminded business owners to strengthen security measures, including installing high-definition CCTV cameras and coordinating closely with local authorities to prevent similar incidents.
