MANILA — According to a survey conducted by the Social Weather Survey ahead of Valentine’s Day, a record-low 46 percent of Filipino adults claimed they were extremely happy with their romantic lives.
According to the same survey conducted from November 24–30, 2025, 40% of respondents claimed they could be happier, while 14% indicated they had no romantic relationships.
According to the SWS, the most recent number of people who were extremely content with their romantic life, 46 percent, “was the same as last year, and the lowest in over 20 years since it was first recorded in 2004.”
The pollster added, “On the other hand, those who feel they could be happier rose by 4 points from 36%, while those without a love life fell by 4 points from 18% in 2024,”
As of November 2025, women who were married reported the highest level of contentment with their love lives (57 percent), followed by those who had live-in partners (45 percent) and those who had no spouse or partner (22 percent).
Men who were married reported the highest level of contentment with their love lives (55%), followed by those who had live-in partners (50%), and those who had no spouse or partner (28%).
1,200 adults were interviewed in-person for the non-commissioned SWS survey, which had sampling error margins of ±3% for national percentages.
The survey also showed that respondents from urban areas slightly edged out their rural counterparts in terms of reported happiness, though the gap was not significant. Across socioeconomic classes, those in higher income brackets tended to report greater satisfaction, which analysts attribute to reduced financial strain affecting relationships.
Experts noted out that cultural emphasis on close relationships, strong family ties, and emotional support networks can be more important than income alone.
According to sociologists, the results emphasize how crucial interpersonal relationships are to overall life satisfaction.
The SWS poll highlights the continued importance of love and friendship in Filipino society, which places a high importance on family and close relationships.
