MANILA — After gaining seven kilograms over a holiday binge, actor Paolo Gumabao has shed almost half of that weight.
The actor got notoriety after posting pictures that showed off his “dad bod.”
“I lost 3kgs since the video. I said it in the video diba, balik alindog journey,” Gumabao stated on Saturday during the Quezon City premiere of his next movie, “Spring in Prague.”
Gumabao had followed a strict diet for “Walong Libong Piso,” and his reward was a holiday binge.
Gumabao credited a rapid boost to a strict but healthful diet and abstaining from his “guilty pleasures.” He has also been exercising rigorously.
“Basketball, gym, tuloy-tuloy,” he remarked.
Gumabao will play the lead in “Spring in Prague,” a film produced by Borracho Films and scheduled to open in theaters around the country on February 4.
The viral video drew mixed reactions online, with some fans defending the actor and promoting body positivity, while others teased him about his noticeably fuller figure. Paolo said he chose to take the attention in a positive way.
Instead of feeling pressured, the actor admitted he used the moment as motivation to return to a stricter routine, especially since he is preparing for upcoming projects that require more physically demanding roles.
Paolo said he has gone back to regular workouts, focusing on cardio, strength training, and boxing, while also becoming more mindful of his food intake.
He added that losing three kilos in a short time wasn’t about crash dieting, but about consistency and feeling healthier rather than simply looking good.
Many fans praised Paolo for his honest response to the viral moment, commending him for promoting a realistic and healthy approach to fitness. Fellow celebrities also left supportive comments on his social media posts, reminding him that body changes are normal, especially with hectic work schedules.
With several acting projects reportedly lined up this year, Paolo said he is focused on staying fit, mentally and physically.
