
MANILA — After an SUV crashed into a trimobile and two motorcycles in Barangay San Juan Bautista in Goa, Camarines Sur, after 7 in the morning, three people died and one was critically injured. January 28, Wednesday.
The SUV’s driver passed the trimobile it was pursuing before losing control and colliding with it, according to the police investigation.
According to reports, the SUV then veered into the opposite lane and struck two motorcyclists that were approaching.
The 22-year-old driver of the second motorcycle also died as did the woman and brother, ages 25 and 21, who were riding the first motorcycle.
The second motorcycle’s 19-year-old male rider sustained serious injuries and is currently in critical condition at the hospital.
The 19-year-old male SUV driver may have been intoxicated at the time of the incident, according to the authorities’ investigation.
He will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in several homicides, physical injuries, and property damage. He is presently being held at the Goa Municipal Police Station.
The incident is continuing to be investigated into by the authorities.
The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries and is now under police custody. Authorities said he will undergo drug and alcohol testing as part of the standard procedure.
Police are also looking into possible causes of the crash, including overspeeding, reckless driving, or mechanical failure.
Residents in the area said they heard a loud crash followed by screams. Several bystanders rushed to help the victims before emergency responders arrived.
Local officials expressed condolences to the victims’ families and urged motorists to exercise caution, especially along accident-prone highways in the province.
Police reminded drivers to observe speed limits, avoid distracted driving, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, particularly in densely populated areas.
The bodies of the fatalities were brought to a local funeral home, while authorities prepare to file appropriate charges once the investigation is completed.
