After the release of her second album in 2013, Zia Quizon revealed the reasons behind her hiatus from the entertainment industry.

The singer revealed in an interview with Boy Abunda that significant life events following the death of her father, Dolphy, had an impact on her decision to step back from the spotlight.

“I guess just life. Once my dad passed away… 21 years old lang din ako so parang to get settled with my own home and things like that. Of course my mom (Zsa Zsa Padilla) met somebody else and they have their life together now so I didn’t want to, I guess, intrude in their space and give them space, give myself space,” she said.

Zia noted that learning to stand on her own two feet was a part of her break. “It was more of I really had to grow up and move on and have my own home. I guess may learning curve talaga. I had to grow up and pay the bills myself and ako lang nun eh, now it’s a lot easier because I have a partner and things like that,” she stated.

Her desire to understand and manage her late father’s estate was another factor in her decision to take a step back. “I am lucky that in a position na I get to own a home at this age so I really wanted to manage it as well as I could. and at 21, may parang estate kami on my dad side and I really wanted to learn how to manage those things,” she stated.

Zia also discussed about her Serbian wedding and explained why she decided to keep it private.

“I guess I just wanted to, it was a lot of his family and friends kasi in Serbia and I don’t know may kaalaman sila about how is it dito sa showbiz and things like that. And they tend to be like very private and like ‘yung culture nila is a lot more private,” she continued.

She continued: “They can be very private people so parang I want to be sensitive to their sensibilities in that regard and it was just a small gathering.”

Both her mother, Zsa Zsa, and her partner, Conrad Onglao, attended the wedding.

Zia signed with Star Music in November and dropped her brand-new song, “Reto Na Naman.”
