Van collides with a motorcycle in Pola, Oriental Mindoro, kills a family

ORIENTAL MINDORO — A fatal road crash in Pola, Oriental Mindoro, on Friday afternoon claimed the lives of three individuals and injured one, traumatizing a family just days before Christmas.

A motorcycle carrying a couple and their young son was struck by a van that was reportedly traveling at high speeds.

A 34-year-old woman, her 35-year-old husband, who was operating the motorcycle, and their 10-year-old son were the victims. When they arrived at Grace Mission Hospital, they were all pronounced dead. The family lived in Pola’s Barangay Pahilahan.

The police investigation indicates that the collision happened at approximately 5:30 p.m. near Barangay Maluanluan, Pola, beside the highway.

According to reports, the van struck the father and his wife and child from behind when they were riding a motorcycle to a transport station headed for Calapan City.

The 39-year-old male driver of the van was purportedly in route to Socorro to pick up his wife. According to the driver, the van spun and collided with the motorcycle in front of it when he abruptly braked after another motorcyclist hit the rear of his vehicle.

While making purchases at a nearby store, a 59-year-old woman was struck by debris and sustained injuries.

The van driver has been taken into custody and charged with multiple homicide and property damage due to reckless imprudence.
