ALBAY — The eleven dead passengers of the UV Express that was struck by a vehicle on the Camalig, Albay bypass road yesterday, Wednesday, November 26, have been recognized by the police.
As said by PMaj. The deceased were all UV Express passengers, including the driver, according to Karlo Dy, chief of the Camalig Municipal Police Station.
According to Dy, six of the eleven dead came from Nabua, one from Bula, three from Ligao, and one from Iriga City.
There were seven ladies and four men among the deceased.
Their grandmother was one of the two minors.
A 49-year-old Philippine Navy lieutenant was also one of the deceased.
The vehicle they were riding in was crushed, causing the occupants to suffer severe fractures and head injuries.
The car was struck by a truck when it entered a bypass road on its way to Legazpi City from Nabua, Camarines Sur.
It was struck, then plowed into the road till it landed on the highway’s riverbank.
Getting rid of all the victims’ bodies took nearly eight hours.
The car was so severely damaged that a van even crushed it, which presented challenges for the authorities.
Families have retrieved all of the victims’ possessions and a sizable sum of money from a traveler.
Additionally, the accident’s cause has been identified.
The truck allegedly stopped operating after the driver’s four assistants loaded diesel onto the bypass road.
After they pushed it, it began to move, but the brakes failed, causing it to continue plunging and crashing.
“Hindi na nag-engage yung brake niya as per driver na nasa hospital,” explained Dy.
The father of the sole survivor, a student at Bicol University, thanked UV Express in the meantime.
According to reports, his son was comatose when he was brought to the hospital, but he is already reacting even though he cannot yet speak clearly.
The police assured that the driver will be charged with several offenses, but no charges have been brought against him yet because they are awaiting the family members.
