Sudden Collapse: 50 Devotees Faint During Traslacion 2024

NewsInsider

During the Traslacion on Tuesday, January 9, a distressing incident occurred as at least 50 devotees fainted while amidst the crowded procession, reaching its peak at 10 a.m. Marshals and rescue groups reported that the causes of the fainting episodes varied, with many attributing the incidents to high blood pressure, dizziness, and vomiting among the devotees.

The affected individuals, mostly women aged between 30 and 50 years old, faced health challenges that led to their fainting spells. Authorities quickly responded by directing some of the injured devotees to medical vehicles stationed along the procession route. Those with more serious conditions were transported to the hospital field near the Bonifacio Shrine, located close to Manila City Hall.

In light of the medical emergencies, authorities appealed to other devotees to clear a path for those in need of urgent medical attention. This plea aimed to ensure swift assistance for those facing health issues amid the religious procession. This incident echoes a similar concern in 2020, where approximately 250 people sustained injuries during the Black Nazarene image procession, as reported by the Manila Public Information Office. The recurring challenges underscore the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of devotees during large-scale religious events.
